La quantification de l’érosion hydrique ȧ l’échelle de Kfar Qouq (Liban)

Abstract

Water erosion is a form of soil degradation that varies in time and space. This process results from the interaction of various physical factors, mainly climatic aggressivity, soil texture, etc., and can be accentuated by man-made activities. The study will focus on a sectionof Kfar Qouq, which is located at the foot of the western slope of Jabal el Cheikh and is affected by water erosion. A map of soil losses was prepared using GIS and Universal Earth Loss Equation (USLE). The adopted model determines soil loss from: erosivity of rainfall, soil erodibility, inclination and slope length, soil cover, and erosion control practices. 93.8% of the study area is subject to losses greater than 100 t / ha / year. Precipitation intensity, steep slopes and deforestation are responsible for these losses. The validation of the results is based on the spectral response of the eroded zones which reveals a precision of the order of 80%.
